THE CAPITOL
The United States Capitol is a neoclassic style recognized by its dome and serves as the seat of government for the United States Congress.On September 18th 1793, the president George Washington himself layed the first stone on the new Capitol.The most symbolic of part of this building is the dome that was realised in 1856 by Thomas U. Walter who modeled it after the Panthéon de Paris. With a height of 285 feet and a diameter of 95 feet , it is the mosted impressive in the world.
THE NATIONAL MUSEUM OF AMERICAN HISTORY
Opened in 1964, The National Museum of American History collects and displays on 3 floors American heritage On various themes like social, political,cultural, scientific or military history.
THE NATIONAL AIR AND SPACE MUSEUM
Founded On August 12th 1946 the National Air and Space Museum had the largest collection of aircraftS and spacecraftS. THE HIRSHHORN MUSEUM AND ARE YEARS WHAT? SCULPTURE
Inaugurated in 1974, the Hirshhorn Museum, designed by architect Gordon Bunshaft, was designed for housing a modern and contemporary art collection.Outside the museum is a sculpture garden with a Sculpture of Mark di Suvero created in 1967 the “Are Years What? “
THE ABRAHAM LINCOLN MEMORIAL
Dedicated on May 30th, 1922 in honour of the 16th President of the United States Abraham Lincoln, The building looks like of a Greek temple. It was also the site of the speech of de Martin Luther King "I Have a Dream" On august 28th, 1963 and more recently where the investiture of barak obama on January 20th, 2009 took place. Inside there is a statue of Abraham Lincoln that stands 19 feet 9 inches tall and 19 feet wide.
THE NATIONAL MALL
The National mall was drawn by Pierre Charles L'Enfant who found inspiration in French Urbanism. It’s an open-area of 1.9 miles between the Capitol and the Lincoln Memorial.
THE SMITHSONIAN CASTLE
The Smithsonian castle is the focal point for information about the Institution's 17 museums and National Zoo in Washington, D.C. Building began in 1847 by architect James Renwick, Jr., whose other works include St. Patrick's Cathedral in New York City.
THE WASHINGTON MONUMENT
The construction of the Washington monument began in 1848 but was not completed until 1884, stopped during 38 years due to the civil war.This monument, near the west end of the National Mall, commemorate the president, George Washington and standing 555 feet. It became the world's tallest structure until the Eiffel Tower was finished in Paris in 1889.
THE JEFFERSON MEMORIAL
Thought up by Franklin Roosevelt, the construction of the monument that is dedicated to Thomas Jefferson, the third president of the United States began in 1939. It was officially dedicated by President Roosevelt on April 13th 1943, for the 200th anniversary of Jefferson's birthday.
THE WORLD WAR II MEMORIAL
Inaugurated in 1995 by President Clinton the World War II Memorial honors the 16 million soldiers who served in the armed forces of the U.S. and the 400,000 who died during the War.
THE WHITE HOUSE
Built in 1800, the White House is the official residence and principal workplace of the President of the United States.The location of the white house was decided by President George Washington who declaring that the federal government would reside in a district "not exceeding ten miles square on the river Potomac."
THE DEPARTEMENT OF THE TREASURY
Established by an Act of Congress in 1789, the Department of the Treasury is an executive department and the treasury of the United States federal government. THE LAFAYETTE PARK
This park was originally called "President's Park", the park was separated from the White House grounds in 1804 by President Thomas Jefferson, and was officially renamed Lafayette park in honor of the Marquis de Lafayette, the Frenchman who fought in the American Revolutionary War.
THE BASILICA OF THE NATIONAL SHRINE OF THE IMMACULATE CONCEPTION
The Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception is the largest Roman Catholic church in the United States and North America, and is one of the ten largest churches in the world. The first Mass was held on Easter Sunday 1924.
THE WASHINGTON NATIONAL CATHEDRAL
Washington National Cathedral, or Cathedral Church of Saint Peter and Saint Paul, is the sixth largest neogothic cathedral in the world and the second largest in the United States. Construction began on September 29, 1907, and lasted 83 years. The dimensions of the Cathedral are 161 meters long and 94.8 meters high.
THE NATIONAL BUILDING MUSEUM
The National Building Museum established by an act of Congress in 1980, is a private institution celebrating achievements in architecture, design, engineering, planning and construction.
